Lead Mechanical Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical services on a large-scale commercial new-build project. The successful candidate will lead the mechanical design, coordination, and site delivery from pre-construction through to handover.

You will act as the primary mechanical point of contact for the project, working closely with project management, electrical counterparts, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure the mechanical works are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Responsible For

• Lead and manage the mechanical services scope on a commercial new-build project

• Oversee design development, technical submissions, and coordination with consultants

• Manage mechanical subcontractors and specialist suppliers

• Ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and relevant standards

• Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, public health, and architectural elements

• Attend design team meetings, site meetings, and client meetings as required

• Review and manage RFIs, technical queries, and design changes

• Monitor programme, progress, and installation quality on site

• Ensure commissioning, testing, and handover documentation is completed correctly

• Support project management with cost control, variations, and procurement

• Promote and enforce health & safety standards on site

Specific Skills

Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

Proven experience delivering mechanical services on commercial new-build projects

Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plant rooms, ductwork, pipework, and BMS interfaces

Experience leading teams and managing subcontractors

Ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications

Strong communication and coordination skills

Good understanding of UK building regulations and industry standards

SMSTS / CSCS (preferred but not essential depending on role level)
